Schubert & Co. is presenting the entire Lied repertoire of Franz Schubert in one season. What an ambitious project! And how thrilled I am to be contributing a few songs along the way. Tyler and I are tackling Die Bürgschaft – one of Schubert’s epic Schiller settings. Epic is really the only word that truly describes the experience of preparing a 17 minute-long song. The architecture alone is thrilling, it’s more than a song, it’s a journey. To learn more about Schubert & Co. you can read Jonathan Ware’s words about the project on Sparks & Wiry Cries.

As a Founding Faculty Artist I am extremely proud of all that VISI has achieved in its first six years. VISI is an unusual summer program in that it offers several streams of study, touching the world of the performer, the teacher and the scholar. In 2013, together with Martha Guth, I will co-direct VISI’s newest branch: The Contemporary Studies Program, a program for singers and pianists designed to explore the repertoire of today’s composers. More information will be available soon!
July 1st, 2013 will mark my third summer in Princeton, NJ with the talented young artists of The CoOPERAtive Program. Laura Brooks Rice and Christopher Arneson co-direct this remarkable program of operatic and song studies. One of my favourite colleagues, JJ Penna, started the song studies program three years ago and it has caught on like fire. I can’t wait for next July!

After two years of part-time work at Bard College, I was thrilled to be brought on as a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor this fall. My work with the extraordinary students of both the College and the Vocal Arts Program of the Conservatory is extremely fulfilling. I currently teach undergraduate and graduate diction courses, taking full advantage of my comfort with German poetry and song, and ear training classes, in addition to private vocal coaching. More specialized courses are on the horizon!
